Milawul Rewilding
Connecting community to Bunurong Country

The Milawul Rewilding team is ​​a group of environmental volunteers who support conservation work across Phillip Island through a partnership between Phillip Island Nature Parks and Phillip Island Land Alliance (PILA).

​

You can get involved as either a Nature Parks or PILA volunteer allowing you to chose the group that suits your needs the best.

Whichever group you choose to volunteer with you'll be kept up to date with upcoming field session (eg planting, weeding, maintenance).  You can then register your interest to participate in your selected sessions.

Why join the Milawul Rewilding Team?

​

  • You get to work outdoors alongside a group of like-minded people.

  • You get to visit some remarkable landscapes across the whole island including private farms, Bass Coast Shire Council (BCSC) managed public land and Crown Land managed by the Nature Parks.

  • You will be introduced to 11 different community-based environmental groups operating on the Island.

  • You select only the activities you wish to participate in.  

  • The governance of the group is managed by others, leaving you to focus on the conservation activities.

  • Your knowledge of the Phillip Island landscape and how to care for Bunurong Country will increase significantly.

  • You will be giving back to the Island home you live on.

Purposes of Milawul rewilding team

​

  • Increase the level of environmental volunteering on the Island.

  • Connect the Nature Parks to community environmental groups.

  • Provide opportunities for the Nature Parks to support their neighbouring land and community including the Phillip Island Land Alliance (PILA) groups, private landholders and public spaces.

  • Provide opportunities for the BCSC to support their neighbouring land and community including the Phillip Island Land Alliance (PILA) groups, private landholders and public spaces.

  • Support the Phillip Island landscape with on ground works on private, public and Crown land.

  • Increase environmental knowledge across Phillip Island environmental groups.

  • Promote ideas and learnings across individual Phillip Island environmental groups. 

  • Provide an opportunity for young people to participate in environmental volunteering.

  • Provide opportunities for visitors to give back (love) Phillip Island by participating in conservation. 

  • Build a knowledgeable group that shares its learnings with others in the community.
